Borussia Dortmund earn crucial 1-0 advantage in Champions League semi-final
Niclas Füllkrug's goal gives visitors slim lead heading into second leg
Dortmund take 1-0 lead to Paris in their Champions League semi-final after Niclas Füllkrug's goal
Borussia Dortmund took a crucial 1-0 advantage in their Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening, thanks to a goal from Niclas Füllkrug.
The German side controlled much of the match and had the better chances, with Füllkrug's goal coming in the 32nd minute. The striker latched on to a long ball from Emre Can and slotted the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma in the PSG goal.
PSG had their chances to equalise in the second half, but they were unable to find a way past the Dortmund defence. The visitors held on for a precious 1-0 win, which gives them a slender advantage heading into the second leg in Paris next week.
The result leaves PSG with a mountain to climb if they are to reach the Champions League final. They will need to score at least twice in the second leg and keep Dortmund from scoring if they are to have any chance of progressing.
Dortmund, on the other hand, will be confident of finishing the job in Paris. They have a strong defensive record and have shown that they can be dangerous on the attack.
